Hunger Games
I prefer movie adaptations that stick to the book and only remove scenes that are not necessary. The Hunger Games series did not disappoint! Additionally, I also feel all the characters were wonderfully cast, especially Jennifer Lawrence.
La La Land
An “ode to the dreamers”, this movie represents the struggles of being an artist as well as the beauty that can be found despite it. It’s a bittersweet movie with stunning visuals and a jazzy soundtrack 🎶.
The Princess Bride
Sword fights, battle of wits and true love. What else can I ask for? This movie is a fantasy, comedy, romance and drama all in one. ⚔️🔥
Emma (1996)
Quite a condensed movie adaptation of the book written by Jane Austen, (but unlike the 2005 P&P movie), I think it still successfully captured the spirit and heart of the novel! The pace was not rushed and all the key scenes were given sufficient attention. There are many movie adaptations over the years but this version is my favourite because I think the characters are the most natural and most like the book :).
Sound of Music
I watched this movie at least 7 times when I was young because it was both my mother's and my music teacher’s favourite movie! Anyways the soundtrack is wonderful 😊
Tangled
When I was young I borrowed Rapunzel from the library and refused to return it until I bought the exact book online. Rapunzel is my favourite princess and I relate to her, so naturally this movie is a favourite.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Still think the first movie in the series is the best. I really enjoyed the twists and never really knowing what Captain Jack Sparrow is gonna do next!
Titanic
I sang 'My heart will go on' so many times when I was young so it was lovely to hear it at the end of the movie. And who can forget the iconic “I’m flying” scene. I may also have an obsession with stories about star-crossed lovers.
Zootopia
A really good Disney movie that touches on important topics like prejudice and stereotyping. I literally have the video of Judy conquering the police academy in my motivation playlist. 🔥
A Walk to Remember
Despite being a very cheesy romance drama, I was in tears by the end. Jamie showed incredible resilience while Landon had significant character growth during the movie. They bring out the best in each other, and there is a purity in their love as they stand by each other despite the unavoidable tragedy that edges closer day by day.
TV shows
Pride & Prejudice (1995)
This is the best Jane Austen adaptation of all time. With over 6h of screen time nothing is rushed and all the important scenes are done justice. The portrayal of side characters like Mr Collins, Miss Bingley and Lady Catherine de Bourgh was done so well that the show perfectly captured the wit and humor of the novel. Besides, the story and dialogue were generally faithful to the book. Sure, the show may have taken the liberty in adding a few extra scenes 🤔🤔, but they were also very amusing.
We Bare Bears
The cutest and goofiest cartoon imo. It’s a wholesome story of three bears trying to find their places among humans. It’s lovely to see the bears bond together despite their contrasting personalities. 🐻🐼🐻❄️
Gilmore Girls
I think it’s really interesting that unlike conventional shows, this show tells the story of Rory’s downfall. Besides this, I love watching the short Rory and Paris clips when I’m lazy as they make me motivated to study 😂
